The D.C. area is known as the dirtiest golf course in the country.
And yet, there are still places around the nation that are ranked as dirtiest by Golf Digest, the world’s largest golf magazine.
Here’s a look at some of the most dirtiest courses in the nation: Stonebridge, Va.
— No. 1 on Golf Digest’s list of dirtiest.
It’s located just outside the city of Richmond, Va., on the Potomac River and features a 2,800-foot course that’s only playable during winter months.
Stonebridge is considered a “top 10” spot for golfers, according to Golf Digest.
Stonebridges golf course is located in a residential area in a quiet, residential area.
It has an average of 2,300 players per hole, according a Golf Digest review.
The course is rated as the No. 3 dirtiest course in America.
— It’s the only course on Golf.com’s top 10 dirtiest, according the magazine.
It was rated No. 2 in the U.K. in 2012, but has seen its rankings slip in recent years, with a ranking that now sits at No. 11.
The Woodstock Country Club is in a small community on the Tennessee River, which is about a three-hour drive south of Nashville.
Golf Digest found that more than 20 percent of the course’s courses were rated as “incomplete,” which means they didn’t meet any of the requirements for playing at the top of the rankings.
It found that nearly half of the courses had less than 20 players, and nearly all had less players than one.
The club is located on private land, but its course is open to the public.

Woodys is one of the oldest golf courses in America, dating back to 1750, according Golf Digest (although it hasn’t played a round since 1995).
It’s owned by the Woodsy Golf Club Association, which says it’s the oldest continuously operating golf course with more than 1,000 players.
The golf course has more than 4,000 holes and is a two-hour walk from the Tennessee line.
The clubhouse is on a two acre plot that’s part of a larger golf course.
The majority of the club’s courses are not on private property, so the clubhouse is open during the week and closed during the weekends.
The property is surrounded by golf courses, but it’s only open to members.
The Woods Hole Golf Course in Dauphin, Minn.
— A No. 4 spot on the list.
The Dauchin Country Club sits on a small farm on a river about 40 miles southwest of Minneapolis.
Its average score is a 1,800, Golf Digest reported.
It hosts six courses that are rated as being in “poor” condition.
The courses include a No. 7 hole that was closed in May, and a No-2 hole that closed in August.
The area is home to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
It had just seven courses rated as in “good” condition in 2017, Golf.
Magazine reported that only one of them was a “fairway,” and the others were “poor.”
The Daux Hill Country Club in Puyallup, Wash.
— The No. 5 spot on this year’s list was in Pui-hut, the Puyallsque village that is located just north of Seattle.
It sits on the Columbia River and hosts two courses that were rated “poor,” according to the Golf Digest report.
Pui Hut is located about 1.5 miles east of Puyalla.
It is home, in the words of its golf course superintendent, “to a very small population of golfers who love their game.”
The Puihut Country Club opened in 1877, according ESPN, and has a score of about 4,200.
It offers no restrictions on players.
But Pui Huts golf course was closed after an employee’s injury in May 2018.
The Puyalot Golf Course, a No 1 on this list, sits on an island in the Puget Sound near Seattle.
The island is home only to three golfers and is rated “good,” according the Golf Guide.
The community is about five miles south of the city, but the golf course doesn’t have a clubhouse and is open only during the day and closed for golf tournaments.
The Humboldt Golf Club in Seattle — The Potsdam Golf Club is the No 1 spot on its list, according an ESPN report.
The 18,000-square-foot club features a 12-hole course that is rated in “fair,” “poor, and “very poor” condition, according The Potesdam Golf Course.
