(AP) For the first time in the school’s nearly 70-year history, the University of Auburn is adding golf courses.
The Tigers, which are in the final three games of the 2019 season, are scheduled to open its new Auburn Hills Golf Course and the former Auburn Hills Country Club at the end of March.
The new courses are part of a $2.5 billion renovation project that began in August.
The new course includes a two-story, 4,000-seat indoor facility and a two,500-seat outdoor facility.
The facilities will feature a golf simulator, a driving range, two dining facilities and a bar.
The former Auburn Lakes Golf Club will also be open.
Auburn Hills was the only university golf course to open with an indoor facility in its name in 2007.
The other two universities were the University to the east of Auburn and the University that borders the U.S. border.
In the spring of 2020, Auburn began a program that required students to play three courses a semester, but the program was suspended.
The program was reinstated in January 2021.
The university announced it will begin to make the new courses available to the public in 2018.
